Ground floor plan after remodelling
Broadwater House, Tunbridge Wells
Broadwater Down was built as part of the estate of Lord Abergavenny who in the middle of the 1850's commissioned developer George Mansfield to design and construct a new development of substantial villas. This was one of the first to be built. It was originally of very high quality, but suffered with age, and in the post-war period was converted into 5 flats, with some modern extensions of low quality. This, together with lack of maintenance and general decay, had left the building in a poor state.
We restored features which had decayed or been changed and brought the fabric up to modern standards. We removed existing modern extensions and replaced them with parts that exactly match the original house. There was originally a substantial basement which had become lost and neglected. We restored this and extended it to the point where it emerges from the falling ground to the rear, to create a whole new level of accommodation.
